Focused on People, Not Profits. Credit unions are unique in the financial world as they are not-for-profit
cooperatives, owned and directed by their members. Their mission is to provide
a safe place for members to save and borrow at reasonable rates. The credit
union motto and focus is "service" - not profit.
Safe and Strong Similar to FDIC insurance on bank accounts, the
National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) insures a person's savings
up to at least $250,000. For more information on federal credit union share
insurance, see the NCUA brochure "How
Your Accounts are Federally Insured".
A Track Record of Growth and
Service Credit unions started in Europe in the 1800s and
hit the U.S. in 1909. HCPFCU began serving the area in 1975. Today it is
one of more than 10,000 U.S. credit unions with a combined $480 billion in
assets and 79 million members. For 10 consecutive years, credit unions have
been rated number one in customer satisfaction by the American Banker
Newspaper's annual customer satisfaction survey.
Member-Owned.
Member Directed. Credit unions are regulated by federal and state
law, and are led by volunteer, member-elected boards of directors. Visit
our "About Us" page and take a look at our volunteer board. Remember: Not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by
a member of a federally insured credit union. Interesting Fact:
Even during the Great Depression, Credit Unions survived with no major losses.
Credit unions are formed to serve specific employee groups,
member organizations and associations, or communities. For HCPFCU - our
"field of membership" is anyone working in the health care field in
our area. Join US!
More than 2 million people join credit unions nationwide each year, for a simple
reason: Credit unions can save you money, while also protecting your
hard-earned savings (deposits are federally insured, and backed by the
full faith and credit of the United States Government). But more than
that, credit unions offer many advantages for savvy consumers. Watch the video clip to the left for more reasons to join a credit union.
